A Deeper Dive into the EVO Visian ICL Lens
Are you tired of relying on glasses and contacts to fix your blurry vision? The EVO Visian ICL might be a great choice if you suffer from nearsightedness! What exactly is an ICL and how does it work? We have all the answers.
What are Intraocular Lenses?
Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are different than an ICL but they have a similar purpose. IOLs are artificial lenses that replace the natural lenses of the eye after cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange. A lens exchange removes the lens and places an IOL in the eye to treat refractive errors like nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. There are various types of IOLs designed to treat each of these refraction problems.
IOLs are made from a soft, foldable material that is not physically felt once inserted into the eye. An IOL mimics the purpose of your eye’s natural lens by properly focusing light onto the right. The retina is made up of light-sensitive rods and cones that transmit images to the optic nerve. When light is improperly focused on the retina, refractive errors and blurry vision occur.
What Are EVO Visian ICL Lenses?
The EVO Visian ICL is a type of lens called an implantable collamer lens (ICL) or phakic intraocular lens. An ICL is biocompatible and made with a combination of plastic and a specific type of collagen called Collamer. Unlike an IOL, these lenses are placed over the natural lens. The EVO Visian ICL is designed to treat the most common vision problem – myopia. EVO Visian ICL lenses can correct moderate to severe myopia while protecting the eyes from harmful UV rays that come from the sun.
Who Should Consider EVO Visian ICL?
One of the main benefits of EVO ICL lenses is that they are an alternative to LASIK surgery or other refractive eye surgeries. Patients who do not want to undergo LASIK, or those who are not candidates, can effectively improve their vision with the EVO Visian ICL. Patients of almost all ages and those with or without an astigmatism (combined with myopia) may be suitable candidates for EVO Visian ICL.
