Customize Your Vision with the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens

Are you needing cataract surgery but scared of what the results will bring you? The RxSight Light Adjustable Lens allows your doctor to adjust your vision up to three times after you have received cataract surgery. This adjustment period yields higher patient satisfaction and customizable results even after the surgery has been completed. During traditional cataract surgery, your eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with the RxSight artificial lens.

Procedure

The initial procedure uses numbing drops to ensure you feel no pain during or after the procedure. Immediately after, you can notice an improvement in your natural vision because your cataracts are gone. Your RxSight Light Adjustable Lens will not be in its final state. At least two follow-up treatments will be scheduled where you receive light treatment to adjust the light-sensitive compounds in the lenses called macromers.

What are Light Adjustable Treatments?

Macromers are distributed evenly throughout the lens prior to your first treatment session. When the macromers are subjected to UV light, they form polymers by linking them together. The doctors at Boston Vision Specialist target regions of the lens with UV light to create regions of polymers among the macromers. When polymers are created, macromers in the unlit areas diffuse to the exposed area, causing a predictable change in shape that alters your vision.

What To Expect During Light Treatments?

Light treatments and adjustments to your vision can occur until all the macromers have joined into polymers. Each treatment takes around 90 seconds. The first treatment occurs a few weeks after the surgery, and you will need to wear UV-blocking glasses full-time until all treatments are completed. Indoor and outdoor UV-blocking glasses will be given to you. At least two sessions are required, with sessions spaced three days apart from one another. Up to four sessions can be completed. Once you are satisfied with your vision, the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens is exposed to UV light, and your customized vision correction is locked into place.
