Meet Dr. Steinberg
Dr. Robin Steinberg, M.D. is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She has vast experience in the medical and surgical treatment of eye disease with a special interest in glaucoma. She has been a peer reviewer for Mass Pro since 1993. She is an instructor at BU Medical School, Integrated Clinical Problem Solving, Spring Semester 2015 to present.
Dr. Robin Steinberg received her Bachelor of Arts degree in molecular biology from Smith College, where she was on the Dean’s list. While in college, she performed research at Smith College, Rockefeller University, and Columbia University, and contributed to the publication of several scientific papers. She received her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. While in medical school, Dr. Steinberg performed research in the neurology department and received a grant to study ophthalmic disease at Shaarer Zedek Hospital in Israel. She also pursued her love of theater by performing in Shakespearean theater productions with “The Bard Hall Players,” the Columbia University Medical School theater troupe.
Dr. Steinberg completed a year of general medical internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center. She has a special interest in neuro-ophthalmology and the evaluation and treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Steinberg has been in practice for 38 years and is on staff at several local hospitals, including Winchester Hospital and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. She has been a consultant with the Massachusetts Peer Review, a division of the Massachusetts Medical Society, since 1993. She has performed vision and glaucoma screenings for the Lion’s Club. She has also given seminars at local senior centers and emergency rooms on the recognition of common eye diseases. She has received awards for her participation in Eye Care America, donating services to patients unable to afford insurance, since 1985.
Dr. Robin Steinberg has been selected by Castle Connolly and is included in their guide “America’s Top Doctors.” She has also been selected for Boston Magazine’s Top Docs in Ophthalmology in the Boston area for the last several years.
In addition to English, Dr. Steinberg is fluent in several languages, including French and Hebrew. She is the director of an adult education group in the Lexington, Massachusetts area. Her hobbies also include yoga, hiking, theater, and reading. In her spare time, Dr. Steinberg volunteers with the Eye Care America program of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, fellow ophthalmologist, Dr. Phillip Gendelman, and their four wonderful children and many grandchildren.
