Take Our Lasik Self-Test Before Your Consultation With Boston Vision

While LASIK is an effective procedure for many people, it may not be right for everyone. Determining whether you are a good candidate for the procedure can be an important step in your path to better vision.

To discover if LASIK is right for you, we will ask you a variety of questions and run some diagnostic tests during your consultation at Boston Vision. But, if you’d like to know if you’re a good candidate before you even come into the office, we also offer our LASIK self-test on our website. While it’s not a definitive diagnostic tool, it can tell you whether LASIK or another eye procedure is right for you.

But what makes someone a good candidate for LASIK? Let’s take a look!

  • Not have severe dry eye syndrome

LASIK Candidacy Tests

On the day of your preoperative exam, we will complete multiple tests including:

  • Corneal thickness testing
  • Pupil size measurement
  • Dry eye evaluation
  • Tests to analyze the shape of your cornea
  • Measure the level of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism
  • Wavefront measurements
  • Complete dilated eye exam to review the retina

LASIK Expectations and Results

Before having LASIK surgery, it’s also important to know what to expect from the procedure and the results.

During LASIK surgery, your eye surgeon will use a special laser to change the shape of the cornea. With nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, the light going through the cornea is bent incorrectly. LASIK surgery fixes this to help improve your vision.

As for results, in 98% of LASIK cases, the visual outcome is 20/40 or better. It doesn’t always lead to a perfect 20/20 vision. The goal is to reduce your dependence on glasses and/or contacts.

There are also risks involved which is why selecting a surgeon with years of experience is vital. You also want to ensure they have the best technology, and that they are able to answer all your questions. All our eye surgeons at Boston Vision meet these criteria!
